We're Still Here!

An Update on The Politics of Charity and the project of this newsletter

I just wanted to give a quick update on the project I’m developing here, and when you can expect some more writing from me! It’s been kind of quiet around here since I published “The power of humor is the weakness of the tyrant.” That essay was the last one I had “banked” in my drafts folder. I am now in full writing mode, trying to get the final three essays in the series done and ready to be published in succession. They are coming soon, I promise!

I have also been working on what I want to do with this newsletter after I finish “The Politics of Charity.” I don’t think a newsletter can or should work like a blog, where I am posting topical content every few days. I already have a blog for that, anyways. Instead, I have been inspired by the amazing Paul Kingsnorth, to develop this space into a longer running collection of essays, interconnected into topical series and housed under a single banner, building towards a larger, coherent whole. It’s a bit like a book, published chapter by chapter, with specific sections. I won’t go into the details too much now, because I will do that in full after I wrap “The Politics of Charity.”

So here is what you can expect going forward: the final three parts of “Charity” are coming in the next few weeks. Then, after that finishes, I will reorient this space (with a new title!) towards that larger project, laying out the purpose and the thesis, and mapping the way forward for it. I intend this to be a larger project that will occupy me over the next few years, so I hope you all are patient readers in this for the long run.

I also hope to build the audience here a bit, in order to cultivate a community of conversation. I’ll be doing that largely myself, but you can help as well!
