Democracy in America

An Endorsement Against Donald Trump

I love podcasts. I listen to podcasts more than I read, or watch television. They are the primary way I take in information. And I always appreciate writers here on Substack who turn their essays into audio. It fits my lifestyle better to listen as I do the dishes or drive around town, than finding time to sit down and read some, especially if it is long.

So, I’m giving that a try here. For some of my longer and more meaty podcasts, I am going to record them as audio essays in addition to publishing them as usual. If I find this works well, I may try some small scale podcasting, either solo or with occasional conversation partners. This is all an experiment, so bear with me.

Something to be aware of as you listen: I am an amatuer at this, and a dad at home with a four year old, four dogs, and cat. I have some audio equipment, but I’m still learning. So, if the quality is not great, if you hear dogs barking or a small child asking for things, please extend me some grace.

For my first audio essay, here is Democracy in America, a recent essay I wrote and published here, which is my “endorsement” for this election: for democracy, and consequently, against Donald Trump and his anti-democratic movement.
