You may have noticed, things have been quiet around here. This has been pretty deliberate. One of the long running struggles I’ve had in writing online is striking a balance between writing my newsletter here, and writing on my blog, which has been going for more than a decade. I like the format here, but I have a pretty large, dedicated readership there that I don’t want to abandon. So, at various times, I’ve tried to figure out and think through how to use both platforms in a way that complements one another. But, for someone with a recurrent case of writers block, keeping up with regular publishing on two platforms is a pretty difficult lift.
Lately, over at my blog, I’ve been laying the groundwork for a renewed season of writing, with plans for daily publishing of a variety of essays on theology over there. My inclination has been to no longer use Substack for writing at all. However, I do read and comment on a variety of Substacks, so I still want a presence on this platform. This has led me to do something I’ve long avoided doing: I’m going to publish concurrently here and on my blog the same pieces. My desire is for that space to be the stronger and growing one. But I have this newsletter, I have a small but decent subscriber base, and there is no reason why I can’t do the things here that I am also doing there.
So, starting Monday, March 25th, you can expect this space to get active again. I’m still debating how often to send things out here via email. Substack is pretty useful as a far as determining which stuff to publish “quietly” and which stuff to send directly to your inbox. I don’t want to spam anyone, so what it may look like here is one email per week, which will include one full essay, and small excerpts of the others from the week with links to read the full pieces for those who wish to (I intend to publish on the blog five days a week, so obviously, five essays a week.) I’ve still got a little over a week to decide on that, but I will, you’ll start getting something from me at that point.
Let me also use this as a chance to encourage you to check out my blog, and subscribe there in addition to clicking the big purple button below to subscribe to this newsletter, if you aren’t already.
